Working on a sunny day

Ugh. I opened returns this morning, at 6:30. It's been a while since I've been at work that early, and let me just say, I'm not real fond of it. I didn't sleep well, because I was too afraid of sleeping through my alarm. Cripes!

But the day went well enough, even though I kept dropping things, and forgetting what I was going to do, just because I was tired. Amazing what a good night's rest (or lack of) will do for a person.

It was all fairly routine, and relaxed, until just before I wanted to count out and leave. Jason asked me to check a lady's account for a certain number... but of course, she didn't have her Depot card with her, so I had to look it up for her. And it figured, that "the system is down, please call HD credit center" for her number.

I finally get the number, and that item isn't there. It was an air conditioner that was missing the remote. After a whole to-do, we finally got the item number, only to find that we didn't have any more of that particular AC. I told them I couldn't just open any box and give them a remote, because I doubted it would work, and besides, then another one would be remoteless. (It is SO a word!)

The lady understood, and she and her son agreed that the best thing to do would be to call around at the other Depots and see if any of them had that particular model of AC in stock. THEN she says, "Well, the AC I bought two years ago never really worked. I have my receipt, can I get a refund?" JEEBUS!! I told her that no, that was way past the warranty date, and that WE only warranty them for 30 days.

Then she said,

"Well, I have the receipt from the one I bought last year, and that still is within the one year warranty, and it doesn't work. Can you refund that one?"

I couldn't believe she was asking me that! I said again, "No, our warranty is only for 30 days, you would have to contact the manufacturer for that."

She replied, "But it's still under the one year warranty", obviously not LISTENING to what I had told her.

So I said, "WE only warranty it for 30 days. You have to call the manufacturer for anything over that."

Finally her son stepped in and said he would take care of it. Cripes. And they finally left, so I could count out my till and get the heck out of there! Believe me, it was nice to come home and relax. I even went to the store and bought some deli food so I wouldn't have to make anything.

I even straightened up the house (not that it was that messy) and now I'm just waiting for my new favorite show on FoodNetwork, Next Food Network Star. I can't wait to see who's next to get kicked off!!

For now, I'll just enjoy my neat(er) house.

I used to have a job where I had to communte a 1/2 hour and be there by 7am. Now, it's hard for me to get to work by 8am. And I live 6 blocks from my office! (42 seconds driveway to driveway.) I can't imagine being at work at 6:30am anymore. I've always suspected that people who work in returns are saints...after reading your diary, I'm sure of it.!
