Computer issues at work

I dragged myself in to work this morning at 6AM without the benefit of coffee. We aren't allowed to have it at the registers unless it's in a "water bottle" type container, and if I have to do that, I would just rather drink soda. I stopped at the 7-11 before work and picked up a couple of Coke Zeros so I would at least have something to drink.

Everything was just flowing along nice and smooth, until I took my break. I stopped at the training room to do my monthly training quiz, and it made me change my password.. which, since I was still signed in my regular computer, I now could not get out of it. I had to have a HC come and force open my drawer (with a computer command, not BY force) just so I could get my money out.

I tried for about another half hour to get in, even calling the computer room and getting them to reset my password. Three times. Nothing worked. Even the computer room people were stumped. So I cashiered the rest of the afternoon on Norma's till. She had to clear that with the manager. It's nice to be trusted enough to use your boss' till!

They did try removing me from the cashier list in the computer, and putting me back on. After 24 hours, that might just be enough to get me back into the system. It will be a long day tomorrow if I can't log in!

We will get the word on the interview on Friday. I'm not considering myself a sure bet for the job, but more of an equal of three... one person is a definite, in my opinion, since she has had the training and has worked a couple days as an HC. I would not at all be insulted to lose the job to her, or even to any of the others who applied. And if I don't get the job, I am reasonably certain that full time isn't far off, since there will be TWO full time openings anyway.

One is Pete's. He went to work yesterday, and within a few minutes was being taken out of the building in handcuffs by two policemen and the district LP (loss prevention) manager from the Depot of Home. That does not sound good... it makes me think that whatever he did, (and it's reasonable to assume it was theft) whatever he did was done at more than one store. Otherwise, our LP manager could easily have handled it. Dang. This guy is more stupid than I thought. He must have thought he was smarter than everyone else, but obviously he was wrong. DUH.

That was all I was told about him.. no one really knows much, or if they do, they aren't talking. The Depot is not a good place for rumors, which is ok too...

I sure was glad to get out of there at 2:30. I came home and fell asleep in my computer chair. Guess I was a little tired. I'm kind of glad I work late for the rest of the week... except on Friday I work at 10, but that's not what I consider early. I will either be glad to leave at 6:30 to come home and celebrate, or come home and be bummed. We'll see.

I think I'm going to run to Henry's to pick up more of last week's ad items so I don't have to go tomorrow morning and miss prime Pogo playing time!

Don't be bummed if you do not get the HC job -- it just means better things are in store (pun intended) for you. After all, it has not been a year that you have been there. I am sure your honesty, attitude, and work ethic will take you far. Hang in there.

i sure hope you get the HC job, you work hard and you leave the store on your own, without wearing handcuffs and being escorted!! and you get invited back to work each day!!! one thing with computers and i know you know this, when in doubt, reboot! most store cashier puter systems run win-dose 2000 for some reason, 2000 is filled with problems from the beginning! maybe that is part of the puter probs there!! good luck!

I hope the computer snafu is fixed by now....nothing worse than when you can't do your job because the computer can't find you! Good luck with the job...I think you have a good chance to get it...but if you don't this time...I am sure next time you will.
